Abstract

Elementary school education still has many problems in terms of learning, therefore new breakthroughs are needed to become solutions. The onslaught of information technology that is very difficult to filter is a new threat to the development of students. especially the presence of smartphones that are very disruptive to students' learning time. With this phenomenon, educators at Saraswati I Elementary School, Denpasar, apply learning based on picture story book media. The media aims to attract students' interest in reading books again, in order to achieve increased literacy skills of students. The application of picture story book media at Saraswati I Elementary School, Denpasar is a factor causing the high literacy index of the school in the city of Denpasar. This study will use motivation theory to dissect it. Data mining uses qualitative data collection techniques of observation, interviews, and document analysis, which will then be presented in a qualitative descriptive form. Based on the results of the analysis carried out, there are several findings from the results of the analysis. The findings in question are, 1) the process of implementing picture story books is carried out in a structured and systematic manner, starting from the planning stage to the implementation stage. The planning stage includes the action of compiling lesson plans and preparing books to be used. The implementation stage includes apperception actions, managing time allocation, reinforcement actions and assessments. 2) The obstacles that arise include the existence of a fat class system at Saraswati 1 Elementary School, Denpasar, books that cannot meet all students, and the implementation of afternoon class hours for class III. 3) The implementation of picture story books also has an impact on students. The impacts in question include the creation of active classes, the emergence of interest in visiting the library, and the development of a literacy culture for class III students.
